WHAT: A mission trip is something more than just hard work, sweat and long days. It can transform individuals for a lifetime. It will be something they will never forget! There is something special that happens when a group of people get together for a great cause. I have had the opportunity to participate in numerous mission trips and experiences and they all hold a special place in my heart and each one made me more appreciative and more understanding of the world I live in. Summer 2009 you have the opportunity to join us on a trip for the ages. Mark your calendars now and prepare to be challenged, inspired and tranformed. I promise you this...you won't regret your decision to make this trip.

WHEN: Sunday June 7th - Saturday June 13th

WHERE: Housing Oriented Ministries Established for Service, Incorporated (HOMES, Inc.) is a private non-profit 501(c) (3) corporation that is located in Neon, KY in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains.
HOMES, Inc. has been in existence since 1984. The establishment came about through a merger of the Whitesburg Home Repair Program, a home repair service operated by Mennonite Central Committee and Eastern Kentucky Housing Development Corporation a private non profit organization founded in 1967.
Some forgotten individuals were pretty creative when they came up with the acronym HOMES, Inc.; yet HOMES is what the name implies. We are an organization that provides the opportunity for Christians to help others with their physical needs in the name of Christ. Though we are Christian ministry we do not have an affiliation with a particular denomination.

Our mission statement has been stated as:
To expand opportunities available to residents for the purpose of obtaining adequate affordable housing by constructing new houses and rehabilitating existing houses. To provide decent, safe, sanitary affordable owner owned and rental housing solutions in Letcher, Knott, Floyd and Pike counties for families who are low income.

HOMES, Inc. strives to provide affordable housing solutions to families in our four county service area. We currently have a staff of 3 office personnel and 7 carpenters who work year round to provide affordable housing solutions. These solutions include:
New home building program whereby HOMES, Inc. works with eligible families to get them prepared for home ownership, constructs the house and infrastructure, and obtains the permanent affordable financing.
Home rehabilitation program whereby HOMES, Inc. utilizes low interest loans and grant money to do repairs to existing housing stock. In the past two years there has been a increase demand for home rehabilitation. A typical job consist of new windows, insulation (many houses do not have any insulation!), replacing coal heat with a HVAC unit, upgrading the electrical service and updating the wiring in the house.
Affordable rental program whereby HOMES, Inc. now has available 26 units of affordable rental housing. Recently we have experienced an increase in demand for affordable rental units.
Managing our HOMES Home Loan Fund (HHLF). The HHLF is a revolving loan fund that has been created over the years by loaning money to families for permanent financing of a new home or a small loan for home repairs. The monthly revenues we receive from the payments are then made available to be loaned out to other families for new home construction, home repairs, or more affordable rental housing units.
Community improvement projects such as razing blighted and deteriorated structures that are often a hazard and an eyesore to the community. Occasionally we will be asked to assist with a community based project such as helping repair or build senior citizen facilities.
COST: $225.00 - This covers your housing, meals, t-shirt and building materials. We will have to determine transportation costs as we get closer to the date. We will be offering fundraisers to help defray the cost of the trip. Stay tuned.
